We rented through Budget and the pickup/dropoff was at Doherty's. First, we received the truck in very dirty condition. There were mud stains all over the truck. We took plenty of photos to document this. During usage of the truck, the service light came on for "temperature" because the exhaust filter was broken. We saw tons of smoke coming out of the exhaust. When we called roadside assistance, they said we would be fine. We were still very concerned though because we were using this truck for a long haul trip. Before we returned the truck, we thoroughly cleaned at our business. We used a power washer, swept, and literally scrubbed the truck from top to bottom. The truck was returned cleaner than when it was rented. The next day, we were charged a cleaning fee. We received no phone call, email, or any opportunity to resolve this with Doherty's. I demanded to see photos because Doherty's was claiming the truck was so dirty that it could not be rented to their next renter. They have now been silent and not responding to my emails. This kind of behavior is extremely unprofessional and we're vowing to never rent from this company again due to the shady behavior. For a Budget vendor to rent us a filthy truck, which also had serious mechanical issues, and then attempt to pass the bill on to us for their own equipment shortcomings, is absolutely unacceptable.
